Cameron Diaz doesn't want kids, and she isn't afraid to say it.
As the video above explains, Diaz's interview in this month's Esquire magazine reveals the actress has no desire to be a mother. At 41, she's hardly too "old" to have children, but she readily owns up to wanting to focus on her career exclusively, and not having kids is "easier."
So why is this a controversial statement? Well, much the so-called "wars" between working moms and stay-at-home moms, people who choose not to have kids find themselves on the receiving end of judgments constantly, and many feel the need to lie about their decision. It's refreshing for someone who is childfree, particularly a well-known celebrity, to take ownership of the decision so publicly.
This isn't the first time she's made the statement either. In an interview with Parade in 2009, she said, "I have an unbelievable life. In some ways, I have the life that I have because I don’t have children," she said. "I don’t think it’s a compromise to have children. I don’t think it’s a compromise not to. I think it’s just a different choice."
Diaz is also more than happy to have kids in her life, just not taking it over completely. She speaks extensively of her love for her nieces and nephews in her book, "increasingly popular role of PANK (professional aunt, no kids).
What do you think of her statements? Are they accurate about the responsibility of children?
