When you've just made sports history for your country by getting into the finals of a world championship, would you expect to be asked about a completely irrelevant fellow citizen?
Such was the case for Eugenie Bouchard when, after historically winning the semifinals at Wimbledon against Romania's Simona Halep, she was asked at a press conference whether Justin Bieber has reached out to her. Twitter users quickly responded.
Of course, this isn't the first time Bouchard has been given inappropriate questions in contrast to her amazing sporting accomplishments. After her first semifinals this year, at the Australian Open, reporters asked who she would most want to date, and the ever-smiling Bouchard gave a quick, embarrassed "Justin Bieber?" response, landing us where we are today.
Other hard-hitting questions from the press at Wimbledon included a joke about "The Big Bang Theory" (thanks to Bouchard's friendship with star Jim Parsons) and "who would you like watching from the royal box?" (answer: Oprah).
Other Canadian athletes, for their part, were impressed with Bouchard's cool demeanour and drive.
And since that's what her win is all about, we are too.
