The highest speed of the weekend was clocked on Tuesday shortly after 2 a.m.
An officer was stopped at a red light behind a two-door Bentley on Alden Road in Markham. When the light turned green, the Bentley accelerated to 186 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone. The car tried to round a bend in the road at that speed and crossed over the centre line into oncoming lanes.
But the driver, a 32-year-old man from Markham, dutifully stopped at the next red light, where police were able to catch up with him. He was charged with dangerous driving and failure to provide a breath sample. His vehicle was also impounded for seven days and he received a 90-day driver’s licence suspension.
