With Prince George's first birthday coming up, we've been hearing plenty about the young royal, from a coin released in his honour to his own uncle comparing him to England's most famous "baby face."

And now, Vanity Fair magazine is celebrating a year in the life of the little Prince of Cambridge, with a cover shot of him and his parents. Though Prince William is barely in evidence as mom Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, has a hold on him, the picture shows a sweet, loving family a year into existence:

The accompanying article to the piece includes tidbits on their new home renovation (including a Beatrix Potter crib for George), the fact that George only started sleeping through the night once he ate solids and yes, that Kate did in fact breastfeed for the first few months. There does not, however, seem to be any quotes from the family themselves.

Details on how the royal family will celebrate the prince's birthday have not been released, but at least according to Kate's family's party-planning magazine, the best bet is a low-key affair with a few friends, mostly family and brightly coloured decorations.

To that end, it won't be all that different from his father's first birthday, which, as People magazine hilariously put it in 1983, was all about "Big Plans [That] Include Napping and Splashing About with His Favorite Blue Plastic Whale." At least George will have his parents there to celebrate him, unlike William, as Charles and Diana were in fact on a Canadian tour, and attended the opening ceremonies of an Ottawa police station on his big day.

Happy almost birthday, Prince George — we can't wait for the celebratory pics.
