Panhandler Is Actually Undercover Victoria Police Officer

Victoria Police Are Going Undercover As Panhandlers

Police in Victoria, B.C. are at it again, in their unusual tactics to catch bad drivers.

A female officer posed as a panhandler on a median at a busy intersection Thursday afternoon where she could spot people using their phones, reported CHEK TV.

The officer leaned into the vehicles' windows to tell drivers police would be pulling them over a block ahead, said Victoria police Const. Neil Lundin.

Hundreds of tickets were issued for distracted driving as well as insurance and seatbelt infractions, speeding, and running red lights, said CHEK.

Police in Victoria have also been known to dress as construction flag people, and to ride buses to spy on distracted drivers.

Authorities in Ontario have used similar campaigns including pretending to be hitchhikers.
