An Air Canada flight from Edmonton to Toronto Sunday morning landed safely, despite the pilot's mayday call.

The passenger flight was approaching Pearson airport when the pilot told air traffic control a flight control light came on and he would have to abandon the planned landing.

The flight circled Lake Ontario before safely making its landing approximately 35 minutes after the scheduled arrival time, Pearson officials told CTV News.

Calgary resident Monique Auffrey, a passenger on the flight, had just woken up from a nap when she noticed flight attendants begin to scurry around the plane.

“I looked at my husband and he said ‘there’s something wrong.’ After that the flight attendants came on and said that we would be making an emergency landing,” she told the Toronto Star.

The Airbus 320, flight AC1174, had 87 passengers and six crew members on board.

According to the Toronto Sun, it is not yet known what caused the flight control light to come on.
