Mont Laurier police chase leaves one dead, one injured

One person is dead and another is in critical condition after the vehicle they were in was struck by a pickup truck being chased by police near Mont Laurier, in the Upper Laurentians.

The incident happened at around 8:30 p.m. Friday.
Police say the driver of the truck refused to stop for police, who then gave chase.

The speeding truck struck an oncoming vehicle near the intersection of Highways 17 and 309.

The three people in the truck are in police custody.

Montreal police have now taken over the investigation from the Sûreté du Québec, which serves the Mont Laurier region.

Major crime unit investigators are speaking with the officers involved in the chase to determine the circumstances around the incident.

The law requires another police force to investigate whenever someone dies during a police intervention.
