A nine-year-old singer drew the praise of atheists online when she replaced the word "God" with "please" in "O Canada" at a celebration earlier this month.
The young girl, who was identified only by her first name "Selaena," appeared in a video posted to YouTube last month by her father singing the national anthem during a Canada Day event in Dutton, Ont.
Selaena's performance drew plenty of praise in the video's comment section. Some users said they would be happy to see the words changed that way permanently, while others lauded her father for not indoctrinating her.
This isn't the first time that people have tried to change the words to "O Canada."
Last year, a group of prominent Canadians including Margaret Atwood and former prime minister Kim Campbell pushed to change the lyrics "in all thy sons command" to the more gender-neutral "in all of us command," The National Post reported.
