Power out in Charlottetown and eastern P.E.I.

A large section of P.E.I. lost electricity shortly before 2:30 p.m. Monday afternoon.

Maritime Electric is reporting the electricity out in parts of Charlottetown, including the downtown, and all areas east of the capital. There are about 28,000 customers without power.

The utility does not yet have an explanation for the outage.

Charlottetown had been experiencing brownouts throughout the morning. The utility suspected that a branch was rubbing against a power line.
