Back Selfies Are Now A Thing And These Celebrities Prove It

Back Selfies Are Now A Thing

It’s official: selfies are taking over the world. While we’ve seen everything from the belfie to the snelfie catch on on social media, the latest craze is seeing celebrities turn their backs to the cameras, giving the trend a new twist.

Everyone from Beyoncé to Miley Cyrus has recently jumped on the bandwagon, showing off their beautiful toned backsides while on vacation. But while the trend isn’t technically a selfie since it’s not taken by the person in the photo themselves, the name still caught on because it’s a planned photo of oneself.

The beauty of the back selfie is that it allows an individual to show off their cool or exotic surroundings, while still focusing on themselves. Take Rita Ora’s recent Instagram snap from LA, for instance. Here, the 23-year-old is featured topless, throwing her hands up while she overlooks the gorgeous city.

Interestingly, this new photo craze is a simple way to combat Instagram’s no nudity rule, which has caused stars such as Rihanna and Scout Willis to be removed from the site. By sharing topless photos of their backs, celebrities -- and regular folk alike -- still have freedom of expression without the fear of banishment.

But whether celebs are taking a stand against Instagram’s nudity policy or simply showing off a cool new angle, there’s no doubt that we can always expect creative things from them.
