Artist Mixes High Fashion And Erotica On Instagram And The Results Are Beautiful

Fashion And Erotica Come Together On Instagram

High fashion and sex meet all the time (just take a look at your local newsstand) but one artist is trying to change the way we look at style by mixing it with erotica and the mundane and putting the results on Instagram.

New Yorker Kalen Hollomon uses his social media account to post collages of fashion photos superimposed over everyday settings and pornographic images alongside unsuspecting people.

Since he started his Instagram account in 2012, Hollomon has gained more than 66,000 followers and has even caught the attention of the fashion world, working with Vogue among others.

His project began out of a typical New York problem: not enough apartment space. Since he was unable to paint large-scale canvases in his small apartment, Hollomon began cutting up his girlfriend's old Vogue issues.

Some of his most liked Instagram photos usually involve him holding a sexually-charged magazine cutout superimposed over an everyday New York scene such as inside a subway or a photo of businessmen clutching a cutout of a Prada bag.

Despite his growing popularity, he says it still feels awkward holding a photo in front of him and taking a picture.

"No matter how the photograph looks in the end, the act of standing around holding out a magazine clipping feels dumb," he told New York magazine. Initially, I was very embarrassed, but people online responded so well to it that I felt a bit better. Now I sometimes get paid to do those kinds of photographs, and that feels very good."

Clearly, fashion is where his heart is and he makes no apologies for trying to challenge the way we look at it.

"I get to force the collaboration that happens between the designer and the person wearing the clothes," he said. "I used a photograph of a homeless man, gave him a pair of heels, and added the world Chanel. Suddenly, the guy looked fabulous. That’s what fashion does."
