Move Over Edmonton.. There's A New Biggest Baseball Bat In Canada

Sorry to say, Edmonton, but you're no longer the home to Canada's largest baseball bat.

A giant bat to be unveiled in Saskatchewan later this week will best the Edmonton bat by one foot.

Manufactured by Progressive Yard Works in Saskatoon, the one-tonne, 50-foot bat will be on display at Battleford's Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame after an official unveiling on Aug. 16.

But maneuvering the massive statue to the venue might prove to be a problem.

“We’re a little bit worried about moving it, transporting it, but we’ll give it a try and see what happens,” Kyle Markusa, president of Progressive Yard Works, told Global News, adding the hard part will be getting the bat onto a flatbed using forklifts.

According to CBC News, the original plan was to build a five-metre long bat, but Marukusa decided to go for the Canadian record.

He is using a structural beam, fiberglass and foam for its construction, reports battlefordsnow.com, and the only thing the structure needs now is a coat of paint.

And despite Saskatchewan's bat being bigger, the $40,000 cost to build the bat is only half of the $80,000 that Edmonton spent, reports CBC.
