Toronto Raptor DeMar DeRozan was out celebrating his birthday in Beverly Hills over the weekend when TMZ cameras caught up to him leaving a Mr Chow restaurant. The tabloid excitedly pointed out Hollywood A-lister Johnny Depp stood a few feet away.
"Did you know that Johnny Depp came to your birthday party?" the TMZ cameraman yelled out.
DeRozan had a fan moment.
"That's my man!" the NBA all-star called out when he spotted Depp.
The Raptors star asked for a picture and Depp graciously obliged. But there was only one small thing wrong with the encounter.
It wasn't Johnny Depp.
The lookalike, whose first name is "Eric" has fooled many people in Los Angeles in the past year.
Not nice TMZ, not nice at all.
Despite the gag, things are looking up for DeRozan. After last spring's stirring playoff run with the Raptors, DeRozan is keeping the momentum going with a strong showing at the Team USA camp for the FIBA Basketball World Cup next month in Spain. He's in the running for a roster spot competing against some of the NBA's best talent.
