MONCTON, N.B. - New Brunswick's Liberal leader says his party would revamp the province's jobs creation strategy by scrapping Invest New Brunswick and the Department of Economic Development if it comes to power.
Brian Gallant says both would be replaced by organizations with specific and targeted mandates.
Gallant says as premier he would become chairman of a New Brunswick Jobs Board which would co-ordinate all job creation across government departments.
He says the board would set government policy on jobs and establish job creation targets while also holding government agencies and personnel accountable for meeting those objectives.
In addition a new arms-length Crown corporation called Opportunities New Brunswick would be created to focus on opportunities in high-growth and high-paying job sectors.
With a provincial election set to begin later this month, the Liberals say they will announce further details regarding the initiatives in the coming weeks.
