Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau says more flood mitigation needed on Prairies

SASKATOON - The flooding that hit Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta this year was a major topic of conversation as Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau made a visit to Saskatoon.

Trudeau led a roundtable discussion with water experts on Thursday, saying more could have been done to stop flooding on the Prairies these past couple of years.

He says the federal government needs to increase its investments in science.

He also says tools to mitigate the impact of flooding must be given to farmers, municipalities and provinces and accused the Conservative government of cutting back on environmental regulations.

Trudeau is scheduled to be in Winnipeg on Friday.
