Fall near Langdale ferry terminal sends 3 to hospital

Three people have been taken to hospital after falling 30 metres from a home-made elevator on residential property on Smith Road near the the Langdale ferry terminal at Gibsons, B.C.

Police say the elevator car was going up a hill on rails with two men and a woman inside when it failed and plummeted down the hill.

Two people suffered life threatening injuries say police. Another was seriously injured.

B.C. Ferries says the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre used its overflow parking lot to land a helicopter and fly two of the injured to hospital. A third person was taken by hovercraft from the water taxi dock.

The incident delayed the 4:45 p.m. PT sailing of the Langdale to Horseshoe Bay ferry
