Alberta RCMP Injured In Violent Grande Prairie Arrest

GRANDE PRAIRIE, Alta. - A Taser electronic stun gun was used by the RCMP in northwestern Alberta to subdue a man who had rammed a police vehicle and threatened to kill a Mountie.

Police in Grande Prairie say they tried Tuesday evening to stop a person who was driving erratically, but learned at the same time that the driver had allegedly made a threat to shoot an officer.

They say an attempt was made to arrest the suspect at a gas station, but he rammed a police vehicle and tried to assault an officer.

The man was Tasered when other Mounties arrived at the scene.

He was taken to hospital as a precaution, while two officers were treated for minor injuries.

Charges are pending against a 28-year-old resident of Smith, Alta.
