Gunman barricades himself inside Gatineau building

Police say a gunman has barricaded himself inside a building on Rue Tassé in Gatineau, Que., near Philemon Wright high school.

This comes after shots were reportedly fired in the area around 2 a.m. ET Thursday.

Police say several roads are closed in the general vicinity of the building.

That includes Tassé and Daniel-Johnson, while Radisson and Jumonville are only open for residents leaving under police supervision.

Police ask residents to remain indoors, though.

Negotiators from the Sûreté du Quebec are on scene with Gatineau police officers.

Thursday is the first day for high school students at Philemon Wright. Police said the school would be open because the scene was far enough from the school and there was a safe path to the school.
