Miley's Homeless VMA Date Jesse Turns Himself In To Police

Jesse Helt, the homeless young man who gave an acceptance speech for Miley Cyrus at the MTV VMAs on behalf of America's homeless youth, has turned himself in to Oregon authorities.

The Associated Press and CBS outlet WGCL-TV reports Helt turned himself in at the Polk County Jail in Dallas, Oregon on Thursday (Aug. 28). Helt was booked on a probation violation warrant and then posted $2,500 bail. According to Polk County Community Corrections Director Martin Silbernagel, Helt is expected to appear before a judge in roughly two weeks.

As reported earlier in the week, Cyrus threw her support behind Helt when news broke regarding his previous run-ins with the law in 2010 and 2011. In the latter case, an arrest warrant was issued after Helt breached probation. Linda Helt, Jesse's mother, told the Associated Press that Cyrus offered to pay for Helt's legal bills and assistance.

"Jesse Helt turned himself in tonight to Polk County authorities to address his outstanding legal issues," Trevor Neilson, president of G2 Investment Group, Global Philanthropy Group co-founder and a friend of Miley Cyrus. "Miley Cyrus will be assisting him with this process, and they are both committed to working to help the other 1.6 million youth who experience homelessness in America each year."

On Wednesday, Aug. 27, Cyrus used her Twitter account to retweet messages from Madonna, Chelsea Handler, Lil' Kim and Kim Kardashian West regarding homelessness and donating to My Friend's Place, an organization aimed at helping homeless youth.

Cyrus has yet to comment on Helt turning himself in, though she did take the media to task.
