Surrey manhunt continues after sexual assault of 9-year-old

A manhunt continues in Surrey after a nine-year-old girl was lured to a nearby park from her home and sexually assaulted.

Police dogs and their handlers were active in Robson Park in the Cedar Hills neighbourhood Friday as police continued to look for anything that would lead them to a suspect in Wednesday night's crime.

Surrey RCMP Sgt. Dale Carr said police are working on getting a description of the man, but it may take more time as the victim is severely traumatized.

"We're dealing with a victim who is nine years old and we have to go at her pace. She is the victim of a very terrible crime," he told CBC News.

Investigators have been canvassing the neighbourhood around 128 Street and 99 Avenue, speaking with other residents and looking for any surveillance video that may have been recorded.

Police are treating the case as a crime of opportunity and are advising neighbours to keep their doors and windows locked.
