Princess Diana's Wedding Dress To Be Gifted To Prince William And Prince Harry

Princes To Be Given Princess Diana's Wedding Dress

One of the most iconic gowns in history is about to be part of the treasured personal collection of Prince Harry and Prince William.

Princess Diana's wedding dress will be given to her sons this month, after being looked after for the last 17 years by the late Princess of Wales' brother, Charles Spencer, at the family's Althorp estate in England.

Diana specifically requested in her will that the gown, which was famous for its '80s decadence including a 25-foot train, be given to her children on the 30th birthday of her youngest son, Prince Harry, who turns the big 3-0 on Sept. 15.

The fashion icon wore the ivory silk taffeta and antique lace gown at her wedding to Prince Charles at St. Paul's Cathedral on July 29, 1981.

The dress, which was designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel and was then valued at £9000, was decorated with sequins, hand embroidery and 10,000 pearls.

Because it's so well known, the gown has gone on tour around the world (including a stop in Canada) and also goes on display twice a year at her family's UK estate.

Harry and William will also receive other mementos such as family jewels, personal photos and letters and the original copy of their uncle's tribute at Diana's funeral.
