Albertan accused of abducting daughters faces criminal responsibility hearing

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. - A southern Alberta woman charged with abducting her two daughters will undergo a hearing to determine if she can be held criminally responsible.

Trina Meisel was arrested in May after her two daughters, ages 12 and 6, disappeared during recess from a school near Vulcan, Alta.

The girls were found about a week later in British Columbia unharmed after police issued an Amber Alert.

Meisel's lawyer has stated in court that she is prepared to plead guilty once a statement of facts is agreed upon.

But the judge in the case has accepted the Crown's application to hold a hearing to assess if she was criminally responsible.

Meisel is to return to Lethbridge court Sept. 12 to set a date for the hearing. (CJOC)
