Kevin Smith's Tusk adds to the madness at TIFF 2014

Indie fanboy and cult filmmaker extraordinaire, Kevin Smith, screened his set-in-Canada film Tusk at TIFF's Midnight Madness Saturday night.

The bizarre horror comedy mash-up stars Justin Long as a podcast host who becomes drawn into a dangerous situation in "rural" Canada (keep your eye out for a barely recognizable Johnny Depp).

On the red carpet in Toronto, Smith — who wrote and directed the film — described it as a valentine to Canada that's sure to make an impression on audiences.

"I don't know if you like this movie or dislike this movie," said Smith. "It just happens to you and then you carry it with you like herpes."

Tusk creeps into theatres Sept. 19.

The Toronto International Film Festival runs through Sept. 14.
