Collision near Olds leaves 2 dogs dead

A collision near Olds, Alta. on Saturday morning left two dogs dead, several injured and six missing.

The incident occurred south of the Olds overpass on Highway 2.

Two women were transporting 30 rescue dogs from Los Angeles to Saskatoon. They were in a van that was hauling the dogs in a trailer when they drove off the road.

April Oakes with the Infinite Woods Animal Rescue Society in Spruce Grove said the dogs were taken to a nearby clinic.

“The van and the trailer that they were transporting the animals in was totalled on scene,” she said.

“They had moved everything off of scene around [10 a.m.] this morning and the RCMP had transported a lot of these dogs to the Olds veterinarian college clinic. That’s where they remain now.”

The two women were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. One woman was released this afternoon.
