Laurie Strano's death sparks caution at Gatineau cycling event

A cycling event in Gatineau, Que., says it added extra police and security to improve safety one week after 40-year-old Laurie Strano was struck and killed during the Ride the Rideau event.

The Cyclotour took place on Saturday raising money for C3S de Gatineau to help purchase a digital mammography unit for breast cancer screening and to reduce wait times.

The event was a 125-kilometre trek in the Gatineau, Aylmer and Buckingham sectors.

Throughout that stretch, organizers increased security after learning of Strano's death and some of the circumstances around it.
