Veteran mediator Vince Ready is being hailed as a hero for mediating the contentious B.C. teachers' dispute to a tentative deal after five marathon days of bargaining and months of bitter mud-slinging.
The province's 500,000 public school students are into their third week without scheduled classes due to the teachers' strike that began in late June.
Ready announced the agreement to bleary-eyed media around 4 a.m. Tuesday.
Parents and teachers awoke to the news with relief — and praise and gratitude.
While Ready deserves some shut-eye, or perhaps the premiership, he was apparently headed straight to Toronto to mediate another labour dispute. No word if he brought his white hat with him.
