The 36-year-old centre left the ice late in the third period of Monday night’s 2-1 win over the hometown Pittsburgh Penguins under his own power after absorbing a hit from defenceman Rob Scuderi.
Datsyuk didn’t finish the game and a Red Wings spokesman said the player suffered a shoulder injury and will be re-evaluated Tuesday, mlive.com reported.
Datsyuk’s power-play goal at 16:05 of the second period proved to be the winning goal. He also assisted on Tomas Tatar’s power-play marker in the first.
Entering his 13th NHL season, Datsyuk endured a concussion and injuries to his groin and knee last season.
In 45 regular-season games, he scored 17 goals and 37 points. He added five points in as many contests in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
