Sidney Crosby to miss pre-season debut due to death of grandmother

Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby will miss Saturday’s pre-season game against the Columbus Blue Jackets after the passing of his grandmother, the team announced.

The team also said Crosby left for Nova Scotia to be with his family.

Crosby was scheduled to make his pre-season debut after an undisclosed injury, which was not related to his wrist injury he endured last March, limited his practice time during training camp.

Forward Andrew Ebbett will take Crosby’s place Saturday.
