Marie-Helene Lessard, 49, and her husband Steve Ratz, 57, died after their jeep was hit by another car on Dufferin County Road 10 just after 11 p.m. ET.
The driver of the other car — identified as 26-year-old Travis Logan — also died in the crash. Police say Logan drove through a stop sign.
All three victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Penny Rowland, a veterinarian and friend of the couple, said Lessard and Ratz will be missed.
"They were great people. They died too young,” Rowland said.
"I know the person that hit them also died. It's sad for his family too but it was an accident. Nobody did it on purpose."
Lessard ran the Equus 3D Equestrian Centre in Amaranth Township. Ratz was the vice-principal at Westside Secondary School in Orangeville. He had just transferred there from John F. Ross Collegiate Vocational Institute in Guelph.
"[Lessard] was just always a funny fun person that always wanted to make people laugh and a heart of gold,” said veterinarian Usha Knabe, who knew the couple.
“She would rescue Great Danes, she would rescue anything that needed saving."
Funeral arrangements for Lessard and Ratz haven’t been finalized.
