Ryan Belbin convicted in Boxing Day sex assault of child

A Toronto man has been convicted of the abduction and sexual assault of a little girl, nearly three years after the crime unfolded in the early hours of Boxing Day.

On Dec. 26, 2011, police received a call at about 3 a.m., after parents discovered their five-year-old girl missing from a home in the Bathurst Street and Wilson Avenue area.

By the time police arrived at the scene, the girl had been found a short distance away.

Within hours, police revealed the girl had been sexually assaulted and a male suspect was being sought.

Ryan Belbin was arrested nearly two months after the incident.

On Thursday, Belbin was found guilty of four counts — breaking and entering to commit an offence, abducting a child, sexual assault and touching for a sexual purpose.

Belbin will be back in court for sentencing on Nov. 27.
