Mountie shoots, injures man armed with possible gun in Alberta RCMP detachment

REDCLIFF, Alta. - A Mountie has shot and wounded a man at an RCMP detachment in southern Alberta.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team says it is investigating the shooting that happened early Monday in the town of Redcliff, northwest of Medicine Hat.

The agency says in a news release that a man walked into the local detachment and, "when approached by police, he produced and pointed what appeared to be a firearm."

An officer shot and wounded the man and he was taken to hospital.

ASIRT, a provincial unit that investigates the use of force by police, provided no other details.

RCMP would only add that the injured man is a civilian.
