Subway Commercial Thinks You Should Diet To Fit Into Sexy Halloween Costumes

Halloween is totally an excuse to go on a diet because all the sexy Halloween costumes you need to look good in!!

This is the message a new controversial Subway commercial is selling, resulting in people accusing the company of promoting negative body image for women.

The one-minute ad shows two women and a man eating lunch at Subway. One of the women asks her friends, "You guys are eating burgers?" as if she can't believe that they wouldn't rather be eating a quinoa salad. The other woman defends her choice (because burgers are awesome) by saying, "Hey, summer's over," to which the judgy non-burger eating woman replies, "Halloween's coming. You gotta stay in shape for all the costumes."

First of all, how dare Subway judge what we're eating? If we want to eat a burger, we're going to eat a burger, sexy kitten costume be damned! But according to Subway, ladies should watch what they eat (and choose Subway, obvi) if they want to fit into their hot witch costume. Ugh. It's bad enough that we have to deal with articles telling us how to get bikini-ready for the summer without now having to supposedly worry about getting in shape for a holiday that's all about eating candy and chocolate.

As a result, many people are calling the company sexist via Twitter.

Unfortunately, a lot of costume options presented to women are painfully restrictive and usually involve flaunting a part of the woman's body. Some of the costume options presented in the Subway ad include Attractive Nurse, Spicy Red Riding Hood, Viking Princess Warrior, Hot Devil, Sassy Teacher, and Foxy Fullback. The sad part? Costumes like this exist IRL.
