A 20-year-old Nanaimo man has been charged in the June attempted abduction of a 17-year-old woman, who had stopped to help some kittens cross the road.
While the woman attempted to herd the kittens on Wilkinson Road near the Cedar Bridge in Nanaimo, police say a car pulled up behind her and a man attacked her, knocked her to the ground and tried to drag her back to his car.
In an earlier statement at the time of the incident, police said the young woman briefly lost consciousness, but regained her senses and managed to fight the man off. During the struggle, police said she suffered numerous cuts and abrasions to her hands and knees.
Cameron Alexander Compton, 20, of Nanaimo has been charged with attempted kidnapping, forcible confinement, choking to overcome, aggravated assault and possession of stolen property under $5000.
Police say Compton was arrested Oct. 9 by members of the Nanaimo RCMP's Serious Crime Unit after the case received a lot of media attention generating "numerous tips."
Police say the young woman has been notified and is "moving forward with the support of many friends and family."
