By now, you probably think you've heard of every single superfood in the book — from common "everyday" veggies like kale and cauliflower to more expensive foods like Goji berries and spirulina.

According to this infographic by news site Evoke.ie, the dictionary definition of a superfood is a nutrient-rich food considered to be beneficial for one's health and well-being. The graphic notes spinach is considered one of the first superfoods, dating back to the 1950s.

Earlier this year, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released their ranking of the top 41 superfoods that were high in vitamins, protein and fibre, among other criteria. The healthiest vegetable was watercress, followed by Chinese lettuce and chard — so yes, plenty of green foods.

But what about new superfoods? Sure, some "new" superfoods may not be all that new anymore, but according to Evoke, there are a few (six, to be exact) currently having their moment in the spotlight. Check out the infographic below on the newest and trendiest superfoods.
