Alex Ovechkin holds stare for music video

Since breaking into the NHL in October 2005, Alex Ovechkin has posted some eye-popping statistics.

What stands out is the Washington Capitals winger’s 426 goals in 682 regular-season games. Ovechkin’s 393 assists aren’t too shabby either. And he’s racked up 31 goals and 61 points in 58 playoff games, but can’t lay claim to a Stanley Cup title.

Still, the Russian Machine is quite noticeable on the ice, whether he’s displaying his natural scoring instincts, hard, accurate shot, lethal one-timer, hard-hitting ability or being a ball of energy.

What you might not know about Ovie is that he can stare with the best of them … off the ice … into a camera … in a music video.

In the video for Katya Lel’s Let Them Talk, he sports coloured contact lenses and a deep black V-neck while staring (he maybe blinks five times) into the camera and unfazed by Ms. Lel, who for the most part is draped over his shoulders.

Have a look here:

About two-thirds through the three-minute 31-second video, Lel has scenes posing in front of a hockey net. Soon, Ovechkin, who dons a helmet and elbow pads, is seen shooting fake pucks at the net but not hitting Lel. Then he whispers something in Russian.

Other things you might not know about Alexander the GR8:

- He has appeared on the cover of two video games: NHL2K10 and EA Sports NHL 07.

- In 2008, he launched his own line of designer street-wear from CCM.

- Florida tried to draft him in the ninth round in 2003, even though he missed eligibility by two days. What’s more, the Panthers claimed the pick was legitimate, stating Ovechkin was eligible if you factored in leap years.

- His idol growing up was former NHL tough guy Owen Nolan.
