Surrey car crash knocks out power to 2,000 homes

BC Hydro says more than 2,000 homes lost power just after midnight, when an SUV lost control and slammed into a power pole at 148 St. and 100 Ave.

Emergency crews were hampered by live wires on the road, and were forced to shut down the intersection to all traffic.

BC Hydro says power was lost for a three-block radius, and hopes to have power restored later Friday morning.

Police say the driver of the SUV suffered only minor injuries, and it's unclear why she lost control of the vehicle.
