2 people missing after boat sinks near Campbell River, B.C.

Authorities are searching for two people after a boat sank off the east side of Vancouver Island early Saturday morning.

The Canadian Forces' Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Victoria says it took the Mayday call around 2:30 a.m. PT.

Three people were on the boat about five kilometres north of Campbell River, and it was taking on water.

One person was rescued, but the other two are still missing, the JRCC told CBC News Saturday afternoon.

A Cormorant helicopter was dispatched from CFB Comox to aid coast guard and RCMP crews in the search.
