Ottawa Shooting EMS Call: 'We May Have Multiple Patients'

The Ottawa Citizen has obtained an emergency services phone call from the time of the shootings in downtown Ottawa on Wednesday.

The call comes from in front of the Chateau Laurier hotel near Parliament Hill and the National War Memorial. A soldier was shot and killed at the memorial during a shooting spree that saw gunfire ring out within the halls of Parliament.

"We'll need you for a code 4 VSA near the Chateau Laurier," a man says on the call. "Cenotaph War Memorial, call for shots fired, we may have multiple patients. One soldier has been hit."

A "code 4 VSA" is commonly used for "vital signs absent."

The Globe and Mail confirmed that the soldier killed at the War Memorial was Cpl. Nathan Cirillo.
