TORONTO - Given the success she's had with dress sales for her label, Caitlin Power has opted to focus exclusively on feminine frocks for her spring-summer collection.
"Dresses have done really well with sales and they're getting into the media," Power said backstage at Toronto's World MasterCard Fashion Week on Thursday.
"We have a showroom in L.A. that's hosting some of the dresses and they're getting them out onto celebrities, and we just said: 'What can we do to go forward?'"
To that end, the Toronto-based womenswear designer created an exclusive collection of 12 dresses which she unveiled in the more intimate studio space under the tents at David Pecaut Square.
Models were clad in Power's modern, style-forward dresses which spanned from day to evening wear.
Steeped in shades of turquoise, ultramarine, beige and slate, the collection included both form-fitting and more fluid silhouettes. A body conscious short-sleeved design, a striped, off-the-shoulder fit and flare dress and a cosy dual-toned collared shirtdress were among the creations showcased. Power counted a chic black and metallic fitted dress as her favourite in the new line.
"Dresses are something you can invest in," she said. "It's one piece, you don't have to worry about mixing and matching. One piece and you throw it on and it's easy to wear. "
