St-Alexis woman dead after car crashes into her home

A woman is dead and her husband seriously injured, after a man in his 20s crashed a car into a family home in St-Alexis, Que. around 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

The man, driving a four-door grey car, lost control of his vehicle, slamming into the bedroom of the home in the village in Quebec's Lanaudière region.

The man and woman, both in their 30s, were rushed to hospital. The woman died a short time later, while the man is in serious but stable condition.

Three children were asleep elsewhere in the house at the time of the crash. Police say they believe the dead woman was their mother.

The children were unharmed.

The driver, a resident of the Lanaudière region, is also in the hospital with minor injuries.

He's facing charges of dangerous driving causing death, and police are taking a blood sample to see if the man was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
