Vancouver sex assault victim released from hospital

Vancouver police say a woman who was stabbed and sexually assaulted in East Vancouver over the weekend has now been released from hospital.

The 35-year-old woman was walking in the east lane of Joyce Street near Archimedes Street, a few blocks south of Joyce street SkyTrain station around midnight on Saturday when she was approached by a man in a car.

Police say the man grabbed her and dragged her into the car, drove her to an area near East 45th Avenue and Rupert Street, then stabbed her and assaulted her.

Officers say they have received some tips have from the public, but believe others must have seen or heard something in either of those locations, and are asking for those witnesses to come forward.

Police have not released a description of the suspect, but say he believed the woman was a prostitute.

Police are asking anyone who may know or have seen anything to contact the Vancouver Sex Crimes Unit at 604-717-0601.
