Newfoundland and Labrador pharmacists will give flu shots, medical injections

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - New regulations will allow pharmacists in Newfoundland and Labrador to give medication by inhalation and injection, including flu shots.

Health Minister Steve Kent says expanding the role of pharmacists is part of efforts to make the health care system more efficient.

Pharmacists will be required to complete training and follow standards developed by the Newfoundland and Labrador Pharmacy Board.

The Canadian Pharmacists Association says trained members in several provinces already administer vaccinations.

They include British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario.
