Rhett Mutch identifed as man shot and killed by Victoria police

The BC Coroner's Service has identified Rhett Patrick Victor Mutch, 20, as the man shot and killed last Saturday by Victoria police responding to a 911 call.

Not much is known about the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.

Victoria police said at the time they were responding to a 911 from a residence in the 200 block of Dallas Road around 11 a.m.PT Nov 1.

When they arrived on scene, officers were confronted by a man who was shot by police and who subsequently died as a result of his injuries according to the Independent Investigations Office [IIO] which provides civilian oversight of serious police incidents.

After the shooting, witnesses reported seeing a man being taken from the house and put into an ambulance.

The ambulance never left the scene indicating the man died there.

The IIO has taken over the investigation.
