Laval advances to RSEQ final for 12 straight year with win over Concordia

LAVAL, Que. - Hugo Richard passed for 228 yards and five touchdowns to lead the No. 1 Laval Rouge et Or into the RSEQ final for a 12th consecutive year with a 74-18 semifinal rout of the Concordia Stingers in Canadian Interuniversity Sport football action on Saturday.

Richard found five separate receivers — including Benoit Gagnon-Brousseau just 29 seconds into the game — for major scores.

Backup quarterback Charles Lambert was 5-for-5 passing for 81 yards and another touchdown for the Rouge et Or, who racked up 435 yards in total offence, and running back Christian Amoah rushed for two more TDs.

Colin Sequeira threw three touchdown passes for Concordia, which trailed 74-0 before scoring all 18 of its points in the final quarter. Sequeira was 14 for 21 passing for 215 yards while Francois Dessureault threw for 59 yards and was intercepted twice.

Receivers Alexis Bailey, with two, and J.C. Benny caught touchdowns for the Stingers.

The Rouge et Or will play the No. 2 Montreal Carabins — who beat Sherbrooke 40-13 in the other semi — in next weekend's final.



MONTREAL — Quarterback Gabriel Cousineau was 25-of-33 passing for 269 yards and two touchdowns as Montreal beat Sherbrooke to advance to the RSEQ final.

Carabins receiver Regis Cibasu caught one TD pass and racked up a game-high 146 yards.



SACKVILLE, N.B. — Receiver Rodreke Joseph caught two touchdown passes to lead No. 6 Mount Allison over St. FX in the Loney Bowl for the AUS championship.

X-Men quarterback Tivon Cook threw for 231 yards and a touchdown but was intercepted three times.



HAMILTON — Running back Chris Pezzetta rushed for 143 yards and a touchdown as No. 3 McMaster advanced to the Yates Cup with a win over Ottawa.

The Marauders erupted for 16 points in the final quarter to overpower the Gee-Gees and book their spot in the OUA final against the Guelph Gryphons, who edged the Western Mustangs in the other semi.



GUELPH, Ont. — Quarterback James Roberts threw for 238 yards and three touchdowns to lead No. 5 Guelph into the Yates Cup with a win over No. 7 Western.

Gryphons running back Rob Farquharson rushed for 232 yards and added three more major scores.



CALGARY — Andrew Buckley threw for 404 yards and four touchdowns as No. 4 Calgary advanced to the Canada West final with a dominant shutout over Regina. Buckley also rushed for a TD himself while picking up 56 yards on the ground.

The Dinos will play Manitoba in the Hardy Cup after the Bisons upset Saskatchewan 47-39 on Friday.
