Hwys 20 and 30 in Boucherville closed in both directions

The partial closure of highways 20 and 30 in Boucherville on Sunday may leave some drivers on Montreal's South Shore unsure of how to get around.

The demolition of a Highway 30 overpass closed both arteries to traffic overnight. Highway 30 will remain closed in both directions until 11:30 a.m., and the 20 will reopen later, at 3:30 p.m., according to Transports Québec.

The transport ministry recommends drivers avoid the area near the Mont–St-Bruno National Park.

This major operation is part of a reconstruction project for two Highway 30 overpasses above Highway 20 — a stretch of road also known as Highway Jean-Lesage. The project to replace the structure, which was built in 1966, began last year and is scheduled for completion in 2016.

Crews will begin rebuilding the newly demolished Highway 30 overpass in the spring.

The continued work on the project will see other road closures, although Transports Québec does not intend to close the highways completely in the future as the work proceeds.
