Suspect arrested in Beauce taxi driver killing

Police have arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with the death of a taxi driver in the Beauce region over the weekend.

The body of 73-year-old Hygin Veilleux was found dead in his car by a colleague just after 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the town of St-Georges.

Police said the last pick-up request he received, nearly 24 hours earlier, came from a phone booth.

Signs of violence on the body have the police treating Veilleux’s death as a homicide, according Sgt. Mélanie Dumaresq of the Sureté du Québec.

Investigators interviewed the suspect overnight.

He is expected to appear in court in St-Joseph Monday morning.
