Body found at scene of East Vancouver house fire

Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services confirms that a body has been found at the scene of a house fire in the Renfrew-Collingwood area of East Vancouver.

The fire broke out after 3 p.m. PT Wednesday inside a two-storey house in the 4000 block of Reid Street, south of E. 29th Avenue and near Kings Avenue.

Crews were able to get control of the fire fairly quickly, and then called the B.C. Coroners Service to attend after finding what appeared to be a body inside.

Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services tweeted that crews could not immediately determine for certain what they had found, as the "structural integrity of the area was in question," preventing direct access.

The VFRS later confirmed that a body had been found.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but it appears to be suspicious, officials said.
