If Canadians can’t produce a hearty (and stylish) winter coat that’ll save us from the cold, then we don’t want to be Canadian. Good thing we can.

Unless you’ve been lounging on a beach in Mexico, you've probably noticed that we’re on the cusp of parka weather here in the Great White North. Sorry, folks: the time has come to bring out the big guns in the fight against frost.

If you’re in the market for a new winter coat, there's no one you can trust more to bundle you up than a Canadian label.

Check out our favourite winter coats that are designed by Canucks.

Soia & Kyo Coat

Canadian Winter Coats

Montreal-based Soia and Kyo are the purveyors of classic coats with a splash of edge. If you want to stand out in a bright pop of colour this winter, check out the label's wool coat in oxblood with a wide lapel collar, black fur trim and a hood to keep your noggin warm.

Winter white is always a chic option. Smythe offers this double breasted tailored jacket in bouclé tweed for your more formal winter excursions.

This wool jacket by Mackage is a serious winter coat but looks as if it's straight off the runway. The silhouette is slimming and features details like an asymmetrical zip closure, shearling lined collar, rollback sleeves and a slick leather belt to define the waist.

Ever wish you could just lie on your comfy memory foam mattress all day? Well you sort of can with Rudsak’s Anouk Puffer Coat. You’ll barely notice the snowstorm in this memory foam puffer with a genuine racoon fur hood, leather welt pockets and neoprene undersleeves.

You can never go wrong with a camel coat (true story). The classic neutral shade looks great with almost anything in your wardrobe and this beauty hits just above the knee for added length that’ll keep your tush warm and toasty. Bonus: a hidden down vest and fleece lining will defend you against the worst winter has to offer.

Canada Goose has made their name keeping Canadians warm during harsh winters and they’ve continued to do so with their classic parkas emblazoned with their iconic logo. If you’re looking for a simple coat that’ll keep you warm from head to toe, the calf length Mystique Parka is your answer. If ordering online, you have the option of choosing from 11 colours (because we need options, obviously).

The Nakomis coat features inspiration from traditional Inuit art in the colourful embroidered patterns on the exterior. Other standouts include the coyote fur sleeves and fur-trim hood. The best part? The flattering silhouette, which will keep you stylish even in the face of -30 degrees.

Winter coats don’t come cheap but Joe Fresh always manages to offer a great affordable option. Their heavy duty winter coat this year is the Expedition Parka. The limited edition coat is filled with down and is both water and wind proof.

Proud Canadian label OSC (Outdoor Survival Canada) Cross has created a brand of sportswear-inspired outerwear that combines great tailoring and quality. The Camrose coat is a great addition to any closet with a removable shearling lined hood and utilitarian details like an inner security zippered pocket and large pockets with flap closures on the exterior of the coat.

Made of alpaca and virgin wool, Judith and Charles offers a great textured coat for those cold winters. Alpaca wool is generally warmer than sheep’s wool so you can rest assured you’ll be toastier than the rest.
