Dallas wins first pick in MLS dispersal draft, Toronto and Vancouver near bottom

TORONTO - The Vancouver Whitecaps and Toronto FC fared poorly Friday in a weighted draw to decide the order of the Nov. 19 dispersal draft of Chivas USA players.

The Whitecaps will pick last at 20th while Toronto goes 14th.

FC Dallas will select first, followed by expansion New York City FC, Sporting Kansas City, D.C. United and the New England Revolution. The Montreal Impact will pick sixth, just ahead of expansion Orlando City.

MLS clubs that qualified for the post-season got one envelope for the weighted draw while all non-playoff teams, along with the two expansion teams, were awarded two envelopes.

Still, four of the top six picks went to clubs that made the playoffs.

MLS clubs that select a Chivas player must take him at his full 2015 budget charges and exercise their option.

Former Chivas players not taken in the dispersal draft will take part in the re-entry draft, if eligible, or will be made available in the Dec. 10 waiver draft.

Star Chivas striker Erick (Cubo) Torres will not be part of the dispersal draft. MLS says it is negotiating a long-term deal to keep the Mexican international in the league.

The league announced last month it was shutting down the Chivas franchise. A new ownership group will field a second Los Angeles team in 2017.
