Douglas Orr charged in fatal Kerrisdale stabbing of Robert Orr

A 66-year-old man who was arrested hours after an altercation on Vancouver's west side has been charged with second-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of a Vancouver man on Thursday.

The Vancouver Police Department said at around 6:30 a.m. PT Thursday it received a report of a fight taking place in the lobby of an apartment building on Balsam Street in Kerrisdale, near W. 41st Avenue.

There, officers found 59-year-old Robert Brown Orr, of Vancouver, suffering from serious injuries believed to be stab wounds. Orr was taken to hospital, but died a short time after.

Police arrested a Richmond man in Coquitlam  shortly after 8 a.m. the same morning.

66-year-old Douglas Cameron Orr, of Richmond has now been charged with second-degree murder.

Police say the victim and suspect knew each other, but didn't comment on the nature of their relationship to each other. 

It is Vancouver's ninth homicide of 2014.
